VERSeFest is thrilled to introduce our inaugural Poet-in-Residence, local poet and short fiction author Amal El-Mohtar. During her tenure, she will lead a youth workshop, journal for the festival via social media, and pen a poem for the occasion. She will also be performing for a special pre-festival event March 23rd at City Hall.
Amal first graced the VERSeFest stage in 2016, alongside Ger∂ur Kristny, Gerald Hil, and Sonia Lamontagne. Her poetry has won the Rhysling award three times, and her short fiction has won the Hugo, Nebula, and Locus awards. Her work has appeared in numerous anthologies, including The Starlit Wood: New Fairy Tales, and The New Voices of Fantasy; in magazines such as Tor.com, Lightspeed, Strange Horizons, and Fireside; and in her own collection of poems and very short stories, The Honey Month. A novella co-written with Max Gladstone and titled This Is How You Lose the Time War is forthcoming from Saga Press. She is also the New York Times Book Review’s science fiction and fantasy columnist.
Please join us in welcoming Amal. We are overjoyed to be working with such an accomplished writer.
