Montreal native Benoit Jutras was born in 1975. He received his M.A. in literature and creative writing from UQÀM. Since 1998 he has participated in many public readings, including at the Festival international de la Poésie de Trois-Rivières, the Festival Voix d'Amériques, and the Festival international de Littérature. He was co-founder of the poetry reading series Nuits Urbaines in 1998, and he has been published several literary journals, including: Envol, Liberté, Estuaire and Exit. In 2002 he co-organized the first inter-university conference of young researchers studying creativity. From 2004 to 2007 he wrote a column for the cultural weekly Voir. His books have been shortlisted for the Prix Jacquelyne Déry-Mochon, the Prix Alain-Grandbois, the Prix de poésie Terrasses Saint-Sulpice (revue Estuaire), the Prix Louis Guillaume (France), as well as for the Governor General's Award. He won the Prix Émile-Nelligan in 2002 for Nous serons sans voix. He currently teaches literature at Collège de Rosemont.
