Born and raised on the island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean,Shery Alexander Heinis is a poet and writer, andcurrently lives and works in Ottawa.She earned her MPhil in International Relations from the University of Cambridge and is a former diplomat. Shery is the co-founder and Artistic Director of In Our Tongues Reading and Art Series which showcases, nurtures, and advances Indigenous and racialized poets, writers, musicians, and other artists from the National Capital Region and across Canada. She self-published and launched her first chapbook, A Greater Whole, as well as her debut poetry collection, Splinter. She has been published by In\Words, Bywords, the League of Canadian Poets' Black History Month Chapbook, These Lands (2020), and more. Shery is currently working on a new chapbook.
