Ottawa poet Susan McMaster has published some 40 books and recordings, and read and performed across Canada. With Andrew McClure, Colin Morton, she originated the blended form “wordmusic” with First Draft; and performed and recorded with SugarBeat Music & Poetry and Geode Music & Poetry with Alrick Huebener and Jennifer Giles. McMaster founded Canada’s first national feminist and arts magazine, Branching Out; edited the Living Archives series of the League of Canadian Poets; and has served as chair of its Feminist Caucus and League president. Projects include “Dangerous Graces: Women’s Poetry on Stage”, commissioned by the Great Canadian Theatre Company; and “Convergence: Poems for Peace,” which brought poetry and art from across Canada to parliamentarians for the millennium. Her work has been recognized by the Ottawa Book Awards, Acorn-Plantos People’s Poetry Prize, Arc Magazine’s Best Poem of the Year, Archibald Lampman award, and Montreal International Poetry Prize. Grounded is her newest collection.
