Angye Gaona was born in Bucaramanga (Colombia) and holds a degree in Spanish and Literature from the Universidad Industrial of Santander. She is the author of several poetry books. She published her first book Nacimiento volátil [Volatile birth] in 2009 which was translated and published in Italy and Brazil in 2012. In 2011 she was imprisoned for her activism in defence of Colombian political prisoners. Her release came after poets, poetry festivals from all over the world and PEN International led an international campaign in her support. In 2015, she was awarded a grant for poetic creation with Commentary on the radical character about culture, history, geography and social psychology. In 2018 she was named Member of Honor of the PEN Club of Québec. She has taken took part in the First Women Poets Festival in Sihui, China.
