David Wheatley was born in Dublin in 1970 and now lives in rural Aberdeenshire. He is the author of five collections of poetry, most recently The President of Planet Earth (Carcanet/Wake Forest UP, 2017). He recently coedited, with Ailbhe Darcy, The Cambridge History of Irish Women’s Poetry (Cambridge UP, 2021), and writes on poetry for The Guardian, Times Literary Supplement, London Review of Books, and other journals. His debut novel, Stretto, is forthcoming from CB Editions.
He teaches at the University of Aberdeen, having previously taught at Hull. He has been shortlisted twice for the Poetry Now Award (2007, 2018), and was awarded The Vincent Buckley Poetry Prize, in 2008
