Madeleine Stratford is a poet, a literary translator and a professor at the Université du Québec en Outaouais. She is a full member of the Literary Translators' Association of Canada (of which she is currently President), a full member of the Association des auteurs et auteures de l'Outaouais and an associate member of UNEQ. She has published articles in scholarly journals such as TTR, Meta and the Journal of Canadian Studies (Canada), and MonTI, Hermeneus and Sendebar (Spain). She also wrote contributions for Translating Women (University of Ottawa Press, 2011) and Translation Peripheries. Paratextual Elements in Translation (Peter Lang, 2011). She has published literary translations in journals and anthologies in Canada, the United States and Europe. Her first poetry book,Des mots dans la neige(Éditions anagrammes, 2009), was awarded the Orpheus Poetry Prize in France. Her translation of Uruguayan poet Tatiana Oroí±o,Ce qu'il faut dire a des fissures(L'Oreille du Loup, 2012) received a commendation from the jury of the 2012 Nelly Sachs Translation Prize and was awarded the 2013 John Glassco Prize by the Literary Translators' Association of Canada. In 2014, she was selected to participate in the Banff Literary Translation Centre Program for her translation of a book of short stories by Marianne Apostolides for La Peuplad.
